The Challenge

From Sunday 21 June to Saturday 27 June 2026, a group of squadron staff and friends of the squadron will walk coast to coast — from The Law in South Shields on the North Sea, through Wallsend (where Hadrian's Wall officially begins), and west along the full length of the wall to finish at Bowness-on-Solway on the Irish Sea. Around 148 km / 92 miles, seven walking days, one Roman frontier built nearly two thousand years ago.

The walkers on this page are raising money for Alder Hey Children's Charity. Some other squadron staff are walking the same route on the same dates in aid of 2493 Squadron funds via Crowdfunder — that's a separate fundraiser. Back home in Alsager, our cadets complete their own virtual Hadrian's Wall challenge as part of Operation Wall Guard.

Our Chosen Cause: Alder Hey Children's Charity

Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool cares for over 330,000 children, young people and their families every year — many from the North West, including families closer to home in Cheshire. The hospital's charity arm funds the work the NHS can't reach: cutting-edge research, life-changing equipment, and the small comforts that make a long stay on a children's ward feel a little less daunting.

Every pound sponsored through our JustGiving page goes directly to Alder Hey Children's Charity. Nothing is taken out for the squadron.
